As I was walking up to the bar one night I saw two black guys trying to get in. They were around my age (early twenties) and very nicely dressed (collared button-up shirts, slacks). Everything about them was appropriate, but the doorman said "I'm sorry, it's a private party tonight" to them. I was about to walk away (actually thinking it was a private party (blonde moment)), but the jerk of a guy I went with was like "No we're fine" and he went up and did some sort of huggy man handshake with the doorman, and he let us in without even checking our IDs. They had never met before, and it totally WAS NOT a private party... although every guy in there looked like a frat boy from a private college.... and most of them were. There are a hundred bars in Houston that are much more fun and that aren't overtly racist. Not to mention the parking sucks, and a cop sits out in front of the parking lot when the bar closes to make sure you don't drive home drunk ...

Lynette4100 is right, they are racist...i heard the owner himself make racial comments (who is a minority btw!!!!!!)

the place is dirty and smells like shit. oh and we tried to stay for their illegal late night where they serve alcohol after 2am and the jerkoff bouncer made us leave because we weren't "VIPs"

i look forward to the demise of this shithole so another decent business owner can move in.

My group experienced BLATANT RACISM and DISCRIMINATION!!!! I am a 40+ female african american professionaI. Via email, I made a reservation for 6 -8 people for bottle service utilizing a gift certificate. Myself and a 50 year old african american female were seated in a cabana area, assigned a waitress, and began drinking. When my male african american guests began to arrive, they were denied entry! When I attempted to get them in, the rude doorman referred me to the manager who had seated me. The manager then transferred authority for entry back to the doorman. After the manager acknowledged that I had a reservation for 6-8 people, I asked him why my 6-7 guests couldn't get in. He was flustered, told me he would be right back; then, went and hid in an office and NEVER returned. My guests stood at the door for almost 30 minutes, then left. I have NEVER been treated so disrespectfully. I had read the reviews about Vintage, but was certain that because I had a reserved area, me and my guest wouldn't have a problem. I was wrong!!! My rejected guests were two african american males and one african american female between the ages of 45- 50. They were well dressed and conducted themselves professionally. There was no legitimate reason to deny them entry, especially when I had a reservation and had been seated in an area large enough to accomodate them. The humilation and disrepect we encountered were unacceptable. If you've encountered a similar experience at Vintage please send me a message.

The best way I can describe Vintage is like Europa but in River Oaks. Aside from the spacious patios, the inside is tight, which can be good or bad depending on the crowd. It has a quaint local feel to it most of the time, but it sometimes gets too crowded for comfort. If you are with a good group, have a "spot" or "homebase", then it is definitely a comfortable fun place to liquor up. The owner is gracious and usually running around working/socializing, which also makes the Vintage experience more personable. As far as doormen and racism, I wouldn't think they are racists, as I've always seen a mixed crowd there. I just think that they are just being sensible about who comes in and preserving their current clientele. How do you discriminate against Ed Hardy meatheads, Ambercrombie preps, Persian fops, Trendy zipperheads, Gringo yuppies, then who would go? They just have to do their best based on gut instinct. All in all, it has its well-deserved niche in the bar scene in Houston.
