My husband and I have been members at this church since 10/08. We had extensive biblestudy to make sure we understood and agreed with what the bible meant and what this church believes, (which I wanted to make sure is the same thing). ...

This church is led by Tim Huffman and his wife Julie. They have been in the Kip McKean movement since it started and they took over the church and fired some of the ministers that would not let them have full control over the church. They say they have elders that lead the church but these elders cannot make decisions unless they are approved by Tim and Julie. God knows I am telling the truth here. If you visit, try disagreeing with Tim and see for yourself.

I was a part of the church. It once was an incredible place to worship with committed people. It did break away from the ICOC church, but does stay in contact with other church's who did the same thing within the ICOC. Many people have left, even those who have been members for years. Two couples of the staff were fired before Christmas. They are now leading in ministries in other states and are happy. They were not happy the past 1 or 2 years due to a lack of unity within the ministry staff. People are not brainwashed, although some people are disillusioned with the mediocrity that has crept in to this congregation and they simply don't recoginize it as such. They did have classes for the church to reestablish the guidelines of being a member, which people were required to do. Sometimes the member and salvation line can be blurred. I have left going to the church. I have ran into some members and they acted awkard towards me, I believe that is partly due to people being confused about church members and nonchurch members still truly being brothers in Christ. I've also ran into others that I believe are sincerely nonjudgmental. To visit this church would probably be encouraging. The teen ministry, campus, and single ministries aren't what they once were. But I do encourage members to ask the Minister/wife to present their ministry schedules detailing daily what they actually are doing with there time outside the church services. They have been through a lot of challenges with health issues within there family and prayers for them are needed.

Just wanted to share with everyone something that happened just recently.I have been with The Greater Houston Church for nine years.Our church has gone through so much.(Which church doesn't.)And so this past week I was feeling discouraged and started to question things.So I started researching the history of my church The Greater Houston Church formerly known as the HICOC. It was not good news.
So I began to pray about this.I asked God to give me a sign this Sunday.I won't share what that sign was(that's between God and I).I prayed,God my Father, if this is where I'm suppose to be and if our church is really committed to you in following your Word, then give me this sign. And if this sign doesn't happen then I know that I need to leave and find a different church to serve in and what I have read and been discouraged by is true.
God gave me this sign on Sunday! I knew God would, God always does. Love never fails, God is Love! The Greater Houston Church is where God wants me to be.
I was inspired by my time with God to pray a prayer of FAITH. Look at Genesis 24:10-27.(Please read this.)I prayed for a sign like this and God answered me, his servant. I want to challenge anyone who reads or writes in these reviews to pray like the servant in Genesis. I DID!!!!

Cult? They accused Jesus and his followers of being a sect, too. I grew up religious attending church every Sunday and Wednesday. When I became an adult, I visited many churches of various denominations and sometimes felt dismayed at the lack of zeal for God, the ambiguity of the teachings and lonely in my quest. I even prayed in tears for God to lead me to a church where members truly loved one another and God's word the way that pleased him. Guess where he lead me? I was invited to visit two days later. Talk about an answer to prayer. I've never been so loved, encouraged and helped in my understanding of God's word. Yes, men make mistakes but God does not. Yes, many will disdain such a committment to love, change and grow close to God, but yet it is still open to everyone!

I urge you to come if you are seeking after God and his will.
